I CANNOT believe she forgave him at all, non the less so easily. Seriously if this were an actual book and not my kindle for i would have thrown it across the room. I was literally shaking with rage when ide read about his betrayal. Ide have rather gone to jail, than be anywhere NEAR that man. Not only did he put her in direct danger by outing her, she also has to save her own life when he was sworn to protect her. God, I really want to give this book a bad review because I absolutely hate the ending because of what he's done, but I loved it up until then, an maybe I'm just an unforgiving bitch, but I cant. It was well written and enthralling. I just hate Dane... Like really hate him. ~Dream Man~
Detective Dane Hollister has a tough life. He hasn't had a day off in a month, a serial killer with a predilection for slashing women to death is on the prowl and now a psychic who claims to witness the murders through the killer's eyes has come forward to share her visions. As far as he's concerned, the psychic is as twisted as the slasher. For her part, from the moment she walks into the Orlando police station, Marlie Keen is sorry she offered to help. Hollister (and everyone else) treats her gift of "knowing" with suspicion, but the detective's investigation into Marlie's past convinces him that her gift is genuine. Hollister moves into Marlie's home, nursing her through terrifying and exhausting bouts of clairvoyance. At the same time the two ease the sexual tension threatening to overtake them-which if it doesn't quite make for good police work, does make for steamy romance. The author (Heart of Fire) has obviously done her homework on the procedure used to develop a serial killer's profile and brings this process cinematically alive. Hollister makes the perfect romantic hero. As Hollister's partner says about him "He's street-smart, woods-savvy, and sly as a fox. A real throwback. Mean, too. Damn, can he be mean! But he turns to putty where women are concerned.
*After the first murder, when the two detective's kept running into dead ends, Marlie come to the Police station, told the Lt. what she had seen (her Vision) Hollister thinks she's lying thinks maybe she's apart of it that she was there when it happened...he checked out her alibi she checks out, So she is no longer a suspect in the case. then the following week, She has another Vision She Sees a second murder, Hollister and his partner are not sure if they believe her or not but the murder is reported right away So they have to wait for it to be reported. it's finally reported after the Detective check things out it's just as Marlie Says, Dane fly's to Boulder Co. and talks to a doctor that treated Marlie.and a friend of Dane's had Faxed him a bunch of articles(news paper) from her past.
* Marlie Keen, is an empathic psychic who starts seeing horrific murders through the eyes of the murderer. Det.Dane Hollister (homicide) is investigating the murders, is fiercely attracted to Marlie despite his reservations about her psychic abilities. thanks to her past experiences reading others "emotions" Marlie is Extremely uncertain of her own intense emotional reaction to Dane.
* Dane and Marlie go to his partner's for dinner, During dinner Marlie has another Vision, in this Vision the killer looks in the mirror and she Sees the killers face, the next morning Marlie go to the station to a sketch artist now they have a photo of the killer.
*they plastered the sketch all over the news, the killer sees it knows someone has seen him, now he's gotta find out who and take care of the loose ends. Dane takes Marlie to the house of the last murder, Marlie Reluctant to go up to the bedroom where Marilyn(murder victim) had died Marlie was concentrating on Marilyn and was in a trans for an half hour Dane Couldn't bring her out, when their leaving the house reporters were shoving mics in her face. the only person that knew she was there was Dane. Marlie Feels Very Betrayed by Dane. and is furious with him... Because Dane had not told her otherwise Marlie Believes that Dane has Used her that their relationship was all a set up and only used her as bate, for the killer.
* Marlie get's fired from her job, goes back to Dane's house his partner comes to the house because Dane's going to be late he didn't want her alone, She asked his partner about Dane He explained Dane to her while left her rethinking her decision.
I Really Liked this book!! my 3rd Linda Howard Novel....
~Goes on My Keeper Shelf~
I have had this book in paperback, but I needed to get it on my , as I could not read the paperback anymore, print to small.
I love this book, it is fun to read and it gets you to enjoy a stubborn cop up against a feisty clairvoyant. It is a fun read and great for the beach. I could not put this down.
This is why I bought it again for my kindle. I have others where the print is to small, but I won't be repurchasing them.
For fans of paranormal romantic suspense, DREAM MAN delivers the story of a serial killer and the woman psychic who -- unfortunately, sees into his mind.
THE STORY Marlie Keen has been normal for six years. Six years ago, she suffered horribly at the hands of a mad killer who found out that she was helping police track him. After that experience, she lost all of her psychic gifts. Just when Marlie is feeling safe, she experiences a murderer's hideous thrill at the rape and killing of a woman. Marlie attempts to inform the police of what she knows and meets Detective Dane Hollister who believes that she must be an accomplice of the murderer. At the same time, Dane is intensely attracted to the sharp tongued and sharp witted woman.
OPINIONI really liked Marlie in this book. She is sharp and strong and yet she is shown being vulnerable and yet she is not emotionally needy. When threatened, Marlie manages to save herself and I appreciated that she was not left as a helpless heroine looking for a man to save her. Dane is used to being in charge and he is often thoughtless in his dogged pursuit of the murderer -- and yet, that is true to his character. His relationship with Marlie is immediately intense and he is a bit clueless about what his going on with him. I really liked him until he manages to betray Marlie's trust -- then I thought him a jerk because he refused to acknowledge that he was wrong. I wish Marlie had made him pay more, but while it upset me a bit, I could put that aside in my appreciation of the book as a whole. There is also a secondary romance in the book that I liked as well. The plot of the book was tense and well developed.
WORTH MENTIONING The epilogue of the book was hysterical and I loved it!
FINAL DECISION For fans of romantic suspense and/or paranormal romances this book satisfies. I especially liked the portrayal of Marlie and the hell that she went and goes through as a result of her psychic gifts. My only downgrade is that Dane betrays his relationship with Marlie in his attempt to catch the killer and while certainly not unforgivable, I think that Marlie forgives him too quickly. He was a jerk and I wanted him to pay more.
CONNECTED BOOKS This is a standalone book.
STAR RATING I give this one a 4.25 stars.
